A secretariat is responsible for the administration of the VTA. The secretariat comprises of a Chief Executive Officer who leads a team of qualified people that represent the interests of members and deliver on the requirements of the Executive Council. Staff undertake a range of administrative functions including policy development, government and industrial relations, human resources, member relations, event management, sponsorship, marketing and communications.

The secretariat is also responsible for meeting financial targets set by the Council through the retention and acquisition of members, generating sponsorship revenue streams, and hosting well-attended functions and events.
