VTA Sustainability Covenant

On 20 July 2009 EPA Victoria and the Victorian Transport Association (VTA) signed a three-year sustainability covenant. Through the covenant, EPA and VTA intend to work together to support VTA member companies and the wider freight sector to protect the environment and contribute to a more sustainable Victoria.

The VTA is an incorporated Association with over 750 members and is dedicated to partnering with members in all sectors of the transport and logistics industry. With over 100 years experience and a dedicated business focus, it possesses the market knowledge and industry contacts that enable members to capitalise on the current commercial and regulatory environment. Recognised as Australia’s pre-eminent multimodal prime contractor and employer organisation in transport and logistics, the Association works with all levels of government, the unions and the industry to achieve mutually beneficial outcomes.

A key objective of the covenant will be to pilot a program for the freight sector to reduce fuel, save money and reduce greenhouse gas and air pollutant emissions. EPA and VTA will also work together to increase awareness and understanding of key environmental issues in the freight domain, support and recognise leadership in the sector and work towards a low carbon future for the transport and logistics sector.
