TDT Victoria, the Victorian Transport & Logistics Industry Training Advisory Board, has developed a Cadetship program to encourage young people into the transport & logistics industry.
While the freight task in Australia will double by around 2015, the transport & logistics industry has an ageing workforce. If the industry is to meet its human capital needs for the future, it must advance programmes and initiatives that promote the industry as an employment destination of choice, particularly to youth.
With these things in mind, TDT Victoria is began a pilotprogram to encourage Exit VCE students to enter the industry in a structured employment & training cadetship, with the aim of developing their skills and qualifications for operations & management roles.
The Cadets areprovided with an industry placement for 2 years. During this time they rotate through the business and get a good idea of how a business works. Off the job training is conducted by Kangan Batman TAFE at its specialised Transport & Logistics Centre in Broadmeadows. Cadets attend 4 by 2 week study blocks per year. All training would be supporting the type of role the cadet would be undertaking. At the completion of the program, the cadets will have completed a Diploma in Transport & Distribution (Logistics).
